How to Apply for NetSquared Regional Gathering Funding FY15

See a list of NetSquared Regional Gatherings in TechSoup’s FY15 (July 2014 – June 2015)
NOTE: We are not accepting grant applications at this time, but hope to reopen applications in October 2015.

We invite NetSquared organizers to apply for financial assistance to hold a NetSquared Regional Gathering.

What are the Regional Gatherings?

We have learned that the best way we can keep NetSquared organizers engaged is to bring them together for face-to-face meetings where they can share best practices and form friendships. Each Regional Ambassador will host one event per year. In areas where we don’t have an active Ambassador we invite Net2 organizers to host a gathering of local organizers at an existing gathering of nonprofit techies.

Why is TechSoup Global providing grant opportunities?

This year’s Regional Gathering grants have three goals:

  • To create opportunities for NetSquared organizers to get together face-to-face during which they share ideas, challenges and avenues for future collaboration.
  • To support the NetSquared Regional Ambassadors program by supporting the creation of regional events.
  • To recruit new NetSquared organizers and encourage the retention of current organizers.

When are applications accepted?

Applications can be submitted at any time. However, we will be promoting the opportunity to the NetSquared community during the following times:

  • Round 1: October – November 30, 2014
  • Round 2: February – March 31, 2015

Completion date: All Regional Gatherings must be completed and reports submitted by June 30, 2015.

How much can you ask for?

We will be disbursing grants between US$250 to US$500.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does one of these “hub” events for the gathering look like?
The ideal event is an existing conference or workshop that brings together people in the nonprofit and social good sector, especially if those people work in technology or online communications and campaigning. NTEN’s NTC or Australia’s Connecting Up is a great example. By using existing events we introduce the #Nptech scene to NetSquared and these events are ideal recruitment opportunities for new NetSquared organizers.

What will the actual meeting of NetSquared organizers look like?
These are informal gatherings in a local cafe or other meeting space where NetSquared organizers share the best practices, event ideas, and create friendships. The events are often a half day to be held before or after the “hub” event and is complimented by group activities during the event. A short guide will be provided to help you plan.

What is a “region”?
This is intentionally vague because it depends on the density of other NetSquared groups in your area. But you can use the limiting factor of your travel budget to help you choose how far to cast you net. Usually the groups share a country or language.

What’s covered by the grant?
The following can be included in your application budget

  • Travel
  • Accommodation
  • A shared meal
  • Conference tuition

We ask that when possible attendees cover their own food expenses and incidental local travel (bus fare, etc.)

How many grants will be disbursed?
This depends on how many applications we receive. But we have budgeted for a minimum of eight events during this granting year.

When will the money arrive?
If your application is approved please allow five weeks for your funds to be processed. Therefore we encourage you to plan your event severals months after the granting window.

Who selects the winning grant proposals?
A team of TechSoup Global staff will make the selection, led by the NetSquared Community Manager and the Director of Global Media.
